Brandied Applesauce

These deliciously moist cookies are made with a touch of apple brandy (Calvados) in the batter, along with unsweetened Granny Smith applesauce and a variety of spices, and a generous measure of currants to make them something very special. The cookies are topped with brown butter frosting that is also flavored with apple brandy.
